During a laparoscopic procedure, a small incision is made in the patient’s abdomen, and a laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera and light source attached to it, is inserted into the incision. The camera allows the surgeon to view the inside of the abdomen and pelvis on a monitor, and other surgical instruments are inserted through additional small incisions to perform the necessary procedure.
